Mookh Alternative for Organizers in Kenya
Mookh is one of the most established names in Kenyan event ticketing. It has been in the market a long time, a lot of organizers have used it, and it has real scale behind it.
If you are looking for an alternative, it is usually for one of a small number of specific reasons. This post addresses those directly rather than pretending Mookh is a bad product.
Start by getting the terms in writing
The most common frustration organizers raise about the incumbent platforms in this market is not the rate. It is not being able to find the rate.
Mookh's public materials indicate that listing an event is free and that a fee applies when tickets are purchased, but a headline organizer rate is not published on its public pages in the way that, say, HustleSasa publishes its 5.8%. Various third-party blog posts quote figures for Mookh; those numbers are dated, unverified and we are not going to repeat them here as if they were fact.
What we will say is what we charge: SoldOutAfrica is 5% per ticket sold. No monthly subscription, no listing fee, no charge to create an event, no per-payout fee.
If you are comparing, ask any platform for these five things in writing before you commit:
- The percentage or fee per ticket sold
- Whether payment processing costs are included or added
- When money is released — at sale or after the event
- Any per-payout or withdrawal charge
- Any minimum withdrawal threshold
A platform that will not put these in an email is telling you something.
The three reasons organizers switch
1. Settlement timing
This is the big one. If revenue is held until after the event, you are personally funding the venue balance, the artist and the marketing out of your own pocket during the build-up — while your ticket money sits visible and unreachable in a dashboard.
SoldOutAfrica settles in realtime. Revenue reaches you as tickets sell, during the on-sale window, when it is actually useful. We wrote about why the delay exists and what it costs in why you wait weeks for your own ticket money.
2. Nobody funds the event itself
Almost every platform in this market is a payment processor with a good front end. The relationship starts when a ticket sells. Which means the hardest part of running an event — paying for it before anyone has bought anything — is entirely your problem.
We prefinance events. Capital advanced before your on-sale, repaid automatically from ticket revenue as it comes in. In 2026 we built a capital pool sized to support far more events, and substantially bigger ones, than we could previously — the stadium show, not just the club night.
This is the single largest difference between us and everyone else on this list, and it is not a feature you can add to a payment processor. It requires a balance sheet.
3. You cannot see what sold the tickets
Most platforms report how many tickets you sold. Very few report which marketing sold them.
That gap costs real money — you rebook the influencer package that produced eleven tickets and underfund the WhatsApp broadcast that produced a hundred and forty. Attribution down to the channel, campaign and link turns event marketing from a guess into something you can steer while the campaign is still running.
Where Mookh is genuinely strong
Being fair about this is more useful to you than a hit piece.
Mookh has audience. It has been running long enough that a meaningful number of Kenyan ticket buyers have used it before, have an account, and will trust a Mookh checkout. For a first-time organizer with no list of their own, discovery on an established marketplace has real value.
It has longevity, which in a market where platforms appear and vanish is not nothing.
And it handles the core job — sell a ticket, take M-Pesa, get people through a gate — competently.
If discovery is your main constraint and you have no owned audience yet, that is a legitimate reason to stay.
Where that argument gets weaker
Marketplace discovery matters most for your first event and least by your fifth. Once you have built an audience, you are paying a platform for reach you now generate yourself.
Which is why we built live comms — email, SMS and WhatsApp — into the platform. The list you build on one event becomes the cheapest marketing for the next one. Owned audience beats borrowed audience, and the sooner you start compounding it, the sooner platform reach stops being the thing keeping you somewhere.

Compiled from publicly available information in July 2026. Where a cell says "not published" or "not advertised", it means we could not verify it from public sources — not that the capability is absent. Confirm directly with the platform.
Moving is easy
Ticketing is per-event, so there is nothing to migrate. Run your next event with us and let anything currently live run to completion where it is.
Do export your attendee data before you go, wherever you are going. That list is the most valuable thing you have built, and it should be yours.

Frequently asked questions
- What does Mookh charge event organizers?
- Mookh does not publish a headline organizer rate on its public pages — its terms indicate there is no fee to list an event and that a fee applies when tickets are purchased. Third-party articles have quoted figures, but these are unverified and dated. Ask Mookh directly for current written terms.
- Is there a cheaper alternative to Mookh in Kenya?
- SoldOutAfrica charges 5% per ticket sold with no monthly subscription, no listing fee and no per-payout charge. Because Mookh does not publish a public rate, compare the written quote you are given against that figure on an all-in basis.
- How do I move my event from Mookh to another platform?
- Ticketing platforms are per-event, so there is nothing to migrate. List your next event elsewhere while existing events run to completion where they are. Export your attendee data first, since it is the asset worth keeping.
- Which Kenyan ticketing platforms offer event funding?
- Very few. Most platforms are payment processors and take no position on your event. SoldOutAfrica prefinances events from a dedicated capital pool, repaid from ticket revenue as it sells.
